Purchasing Assistant
Job Description
A well established, family owned company in the building materials and lumber distribution industry is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to support its growing procurement operations. This organization has been a trusted supplier to contractors, builders, and commercial clients for decades, and they pride themselves on reliability, quality, and strong vendor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Establish and maintain measurable performance standards for all levels of procurement.

Negotiate and execute purchase orders or vendor contracts to support critical business needs.

Manage key deliverables including cost, quality, and service of materials.

Support the materials management and purchasing function to achieve service and inventory goals.

Research and identify suppliers/vendors for lumber, plywood, dimensional lumber, timbers, and related materials.

Place purchase orders, track shipments, and ensure timely delivery while monitoring inventory levels.

Communicate with vendors to obtain quotes, negotiate basic terms (with supervision), resolve discrepancies, and maintain strong relationships.

Conduct market research on lumber pricing, availability, and industry trends to support purchasing decisions.

Perform administrative tasks such as processing POs, receiving, cycle counts, logistics coordination, and report preparation.

Collaborate with internal teams including sales, operations, and warehouse staff to align purchasing with company needs.

Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.

Minimum 1 year of purchasing and/or receiving experience, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or building materials.

Pay: $20.00 – $24.00/hr (DOE)
Hours: 8am to 5pm
