CNC Set-Up Machinist - 5-Axis CNC
Pay: $20–$45/hr • Full-Time • El Segundo, CA
About the Role
A leading aerospace manufacturing environment is seeking an experienced CNC Set-Up Machinist. This facility supports high-precision machining for aircraft components and operates in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
Summary
Responsible for setting up and operating 5-Axis CNC milling machines and machining centers to machine billet, castings, and forgings with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
• Read and interpret work instructions, blueprints, GD&T, G/M codes, speeds/feeds
• Set up fixtures, tools, materials, and workpieces
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions
• Edit CNC programs; adjust speeds, feeds, offsets, coolant, and cut parameters
• Monitor machining operations; correct out-of-tolerance conditions
• Perform trial runs and validate new setups
• Verify part conformance to specifications using measurement tools
• Collaborate with engineering, inspection, programming, and planning teams
• Complete required documentation (travelers, logs, in-process inspection sheets, etc.)
• Lift 20–50 lbs or use overhead cranes as needed
Education & Experience
• 5–10 years of CNC machining experience or equivalent training
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
Other Qualifications
• Ability to operate mills, lathes, grinders, saws, CMMs, deburring tools, measuring tools, optical comparator, profilometer, etc.
• Strong English reading/writing skills
