Job Title: Machine Operator II (Forming / Setup / Programmer)
Department: Forming
Reports To: Forming Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $24.00 – $30.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Machine Operator II is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating vacuum and pressure forming machines. This role ensures production meets quality standards by obtaining QA approval prior to full production runs. The position requires working with minimal supervision, following detailed work instructions, and contributing to continuous process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and program forming tools and equipment

  • Operate thermoforming and CNC machines

  • Retrieve and prepare materials from inventory

  • Obtain quality control approval prior to production

  • Inspect parts to ensure compliance with specifications

  • Record production and inspection results

  • Troubleshoot and adjust equipment to maintain quality standards

  • Trim and cut plastic components using hand routers or band saws

  • Retrieve and organize racks, pallets, and materials

  • Assemble boxes for scrap and waste materials

  • Segregate and process rejected parts

  • Edit programs and implement process or tooling improvements

  • Maintain cleanliness of CNC, robotic, and forming equipment and work areas

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 2–4 years of experience operating vacuum and pressure forming machines preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills & Abilities

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, short correspondence, and memos

  • Ability to write simple reports or communications

  • Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one or small group settings

Math Skills

  • Proficiency in basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

  • Ability to work with fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages

  • Ability to interpret basic charts and graphs

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions

  • Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations

Computer Skills

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Equipment Used

  • CNC machines and robotic equipment

  • Thermoforming/forming machines

  • Forklift

Work Environment

  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts

  • Moderate noise levels typical of a manufacturing environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Frequent walking, use of hands, and reaching

  • Occasional standing, speaking, and hearing
