Construction Accounting Specialist

Location: Upland, CA (On-site)
Pay: Up to $35/hour

Position Overview

An organization supporting construction-related operations is seeking a highly detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support critical year-end accounting and cleanup initiatives. This role has clearly defined deliverables and the potential for extension based on performance and ongoing needs.

The ideal candidate is analytical, Excel-heavy, and experienced in WIP, job costing, and QuickBooks Desktop Contractor environments. This individual will work independently with minimal ramp-up time.

Key Responsibilities

Work-in-Progress (WIP) Reporting

• Prepare monthly WIP reports using an existing Excel template

• Pull and reconcile data from QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Contractor 24.0, Simpro, and QuickBooks Time (TSheets)

• Ensure WIP schedules tie out to the general ledger

• Maintain WIP rollforwards and post journal entries for:

  • Construction in Progress / WIP

  • Over- and Under-Billings

Class Corrections (QuickBooks)

• Review and correct unclassified transactions for the current year

• Research source documentation and assign correct classes per chart of accounts

• Maintain a Class Correction Log with full audit trail

A/R Aging Reconciliation & Cleanup

• Reconcile customer A/R aging between Simpro and QuickBooks

• Identify and resolve discrepancies

• Confirm all jobs and service work have been invoiced prior to year-end close

Documentation & Audit Readiness

• Prepare audit-ready documentation, including reconciliations and support files

• Maintain strict version control and organized file structures

Qualifications

Required

• Advanced Excel skills, including:

  • Pivot Tables

  • Power Query

  • XLOOKUP / INDEX-MATCH

  • SUMIFS

  • Data cleansing and reconciliation

• QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Contractor (hands-on, recent experience required)

Preferred

• Experience with QuickBooks Time (TSheets)

• Construction or contract-based accounting background

• WIP / percent-of-completion accounting
